Alright, as we continue our series on the 9 habits of Millionaires, I’d like to ask you a question. Do you really want to be rich? I’m sure your answer is a resounding YES! I mean who wouldn’t? But then, if I ask you, are you committed to being rich? The answer might not be so simple, and in most cases, it’s actually a sheepish “Well No, not really”. This leads us straight into our next habit.

Habit 7: Being 100% Committed.

Millionaires or successful people of any kind are 100% totally committed to achieving their dreams. I personally realized long ago that I merely wished to be financially free. You see, when you think about what it takes to actually become a millionaire, exercising all the previous habits we’ve seen so far, I’m actually not too happy about the hard work and sacrifice that goes with it. If it fell in my lap, that would be great but otherwise, it’s just a nice fantasy to cling onto.

To become a millionaire is simple but certainly not an easy process. I mean, most of these habits we’ve looked at aren’t really rocket science. But living them out on a daily basis isn’t so easy. Once you decide to become a millionaire, you will face heavy opposition and obstacles. Life isn’t going to just hand you everything on a silver platter. You have to fight for your goals. When everything is going to hell in a hand basket around you, you must be committed enough to your goal that you stick it thru.

Being 100% committed means when that when you fail 10, 50, 100 times, you don’t give up. You simply modify your approach and change what’s not working and press on. Most of us quit when we fail the first time because achieving that goal isn’t really a MUST. Whenever something in our lives is an absolute must, then we will do whatever it takes. Notice that for most people, being rich isn’t a Must hence there are so few rich people. On the other hand surviving is an absolute must for all of us so the majority of us are merely…that’s right, surviving. We easily give up and find all sorts of excuses why we can’t why it won’t work.

For example, when you have your landlord threatening to throw you out of your house because the rent is due, do you ever notice how you somehow manage to find the money even when you’re broke? See, you must come to a point where it’s absolutely a must to achieve success and that nothing else will do.

I remember a couple of years ago when the Rogue King and I started our first business together, I can’t even begin to count the number of friends and strangers alike who kept praising us for stepping out and starting a business. They went on and on about how being employed is no way to get rich and how they also wanted to start their own thing and succeed. 6years later I can’t pinpoint even one who has gone onto do so. Why? Because it’s not really a must for them to do so. They merely wish of doing it someday.

To be a millionaire you must really, really want to be one and make certain that you have pressure to achieve your goal. This kind of positive pressure is gained by staking all you have on your dream. Stake everything on achieving your goal. The easiest way to get this sort of pressure on yourself, is to make a public declaration. Write down your goals. Tell a friend. If you want to quit that job and start a business, write out your resignation letter and give it to a friend to hand it in for you after a specific period if you haven’t gotten out by then. Declare to the bloggers that if you don’t hit a target of 500,000/= a month in profit from your business, then you will buy the entire rounds for the next 3 Bloggers Happy Hour.

The point is, you must, absolutely must be committed to being a millionaire or else life’s challenges and obstacles will knock you out of the race before you’ve even taken 5steps.  I leave you with this interesting analogy. In a meal of bacon and Eggs, the chicken is involved but the pig is committed. So the question I ask once again, are you really committed to being a millionaire?

Till next time for habit 8: Turn failure into Success,

Shalom

Hello good people, for the first time in two weeks i have actually been able to get online, courtesy of my neighbour with an MTN Broadband thingy.
Thing is i’m on a much needed hiatus. No work just me, my Master and my wife. I need to re-evaluate where i am in life and where i’m going. God has arranged for me to be in the mountains like Moses, though hopefully not for 40years.
Anyways, post will be few and far in between but I haven’t deserted the community.
God keep you all. I’ll be in touch

In the words of Mr. Spock, Live Long & prosper!

Best Job In Paradise

To all my fellow bloggers who can safely admit they wish they could make a ton of money just blogging, here’s your chance. Good luck you lazy bums.

Shalom

Position: Island caretaker. Duties: Lazing around Australia’s Great Barrier Reef for six months. Salary: 150,000 Australian dollars ($100,000).

Unemployed, take heart — the aforementioned job ad is for real. Billing it the “Best Job in the World,” the tourism department in Australia’s Queensland state on Tuesday said it was seeking one lucky person to spend half a year relaxing on Hamilton Island, part of the country’s Whitsunday Islands, while promoting the island on a blog.

The move is part of a AU$1.7 million campaign to boost tourism in the state. In exchange for the plush salary, free accommodation in an oceanfront villa and airfare from the winner’s home country, the “employee” will be required to stroll the island’s white sand beaches, snorkel, maybe take a dip in the pool — and post photos and videos of his or her experiences on a weekly blog.

“It’ll be huge,” Tourism Whitsundays chief executive Peter O’Reilly said, adding he expected thousands will apply.

Applications are open until Feb. 22 and 11 finalists will be flown to Hamilton Island in May for the final selection process. The job begins on July 1.

Oui, a poor attempt at the beautiful language called french but the gist of it is Happy New Year my friends. I wish you all a peaceful, prosperous and all that other jazz in the new year.

Now, allow me to digress a little. What is the big deal with new years anyway? Isn’t it really just a change of calendar? How many of us change with the new year? Let’s be sincere here. We’re all gonna rush to make new resolutions and as usual and fail to live up to them because we honestly don’t want to actually invest the time, energy and resources to achieve them.

Lets just call them for what they are, New year wishes.

Last year I had one major resolution which was, to stop living in fear, take giant leaps of faith and trust Yahweh much more. To say the least, my year was a heck of an adventure as i followed this resolution. I moved out of my parents home after 4years of being a non-starter, I got married to the most amazing woman since proverbs 31, I took a vacation in outside countries after 20 years of dreaming of getting on a jet airplane. Now to me, that was a useful resolution. So this year, I’m maintaining the same resolution, More faith, less fear, greater enjoyment. I believe it’s going to be a heck of a lot better than last year.

Whats your over riding resolution for the year?

Shalom

So yeah, i’m back after a long abscense to tell you that i’m leaving for the holidays. Yep, its that wonderful time of the year where I can’t somehow help but belt out the phrase “BAAA HUMBUG!”

I know you must be shocked that I, of all people, an Apprentice to the Master in whose honor we supposedly celebrate this season, could be saying such things. Well truth be told, I actually hate the over commercialization and materialism that Christmas is all about these days.

Everyone thinking about food and drink and gifts. Nobody thinking about the Master being born in a manger, come to save us from out own demise. John 3:10 For God so loved the world… Now thats an amazing gift. But it’s the least acknowledged or even wanted gift. Be honest with yourself.

So once again, I’m thankful for the 2week break from work but i’m loathe at all the nagging xmas carols and decorations all around me throughout the period. Well it could be worse, could be snow lined streets, snow men, santa’s helpers and God forbid, Reindeer.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wish to dismiss the whole holiday cheer. I’m still trying to find meaning for myself in this whole thing. The pressure is on now, cause I have a wife and someday kids who will be desperate for some sort of xmas tradition. I pray the Master will show me the paths of righteousness and holly jolly spirit.

I say we need to rediscover the true meaning of these holidays and be givers more than getters. Lets give more love, more forgiveness, more laughter, more peace, more compassion. Lets focus not on how much we’re going to spend on ourselves but rather how much of ourselves we can spend on others.

Well, I bid you all a very warm and Merry Christmas and supremely prosperous New Year in 2009. Peace, Love and Joy to all. May the Lord Christ be at the center of your homes and lives.

Shalom

Addendum: Someone just pointed out to me,that in the heat of my own rant, i proved my own point of how christmas has lost it’s true meaning when inadvertently misquoted John 3:16 as John 3:10! I’d love to say it was a typo but…I am terribly embarrassed but thankyou. God bless you, i know He has done so for me.

It’s Monday again and like most of the 7billion people on this planet, I’m not to excited about it. But to be honest, i have it really good compared to many. For instance, have you ever stopped to think about the self worth of a street-sweeper? Do they even have the slightest passing thought that they are making a difference in this world or that they are people who deserve respect and honor? Who even thinks about street-sweepers?

But more importantly, who even thinks about you in your current choice of work?

Many of us wake up each morning struggling with our jobs, we think, its crap and i’ll never get any recognition or fulfillment for what I do. There’s a deep gnawing in your heart that you’re at the very bottom of the career pit and nothing you do can make a difference in the world. You long for the fame that comes with being a Fortune 500 CEO, a world renown busty musician or even an LCIV chairman in banana republic.

Well here’s something to think about. The Master requires the utmost best of us wherever He has called us to be. Did you know that you are worth so much more than your job and you aren’t defined by it? Actually, your job is defined by you! But be warned, the quality of your work does say a lot about you as a person. So whatever it is you do, do it to the highest possible excellence; even if it is sweeping the dusty roads of Kampala. Shalom

If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say: Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
